Advertising Association of Winnipeg
For more than 50 years, the Advertising Association of Winnipeg (AAW) has successfully brought together Manitoba's advertising industry. Today, AAW members continue to benefit from the valuable networking, professional development and educational aspects of the Association-not to mention the fun!

About the Advertising Association of Winnipeg

Signature Awards
This Manitoba-only creative awards program is the most highly profiled of our Association's annual activities. Entries are received from AAW members and non-members throughout the province in over 30 categories, and a panel of independent judges nominates up to three finalists in each category. Winners are chosen based on copy, concept, design and production quality, and are announced at the gala awards evening. That evening, the "People's Choice" awards are also selected by ballots cast by those attending the awards dinner. The Signature Awards are an AAW tradition, proudly showcasing the creative excellence or our advertising community.
History of the Association
The end of the war was nearing and the hit song on the airwaves was "Sentimental Journey". In 1944, then CKRC sales manager Waldo Holden decided to gather the advertising community of Winnipeg into one entity.

With the help of Tony Messner (A.J. Messner and Co.) and Les Garside (Inland-Broadcasting), the Sales and Ad club was formed. It was an association to encourage fellowship and professional development within the sales and advertising industries. The first president of the club was Moray Sinclair of T. Eaton Company. The journey began.

For 36 years, the Winnipeg Sales and Ad club continued in much the same manner in which it began. However, it soon became evident that as the two professions grew, the overall direction of the club was forced to alter its course slightly. Many sales oriented clubs were forming, and the advertising profession was evolving. In 1980, the name was changed to The Advertising Club of Winnipeg.

At the Annual Meeting in 1988, the name changed once again, to the Advertising Association of Winnipeg. Although the name and constitution have changed through the years, the essential mandate remains: to encourage professional development and fellowship among professionals employed and/or otherwise active in the field of advertising.

In addition to the regular monthly meetings, the Board of Directors also organizes monthly luncheons for our members and guests. Informative and entertaining guest speakers are presented at the luncheons to share their unique lives and experiences. Periodic workshops and special event meetings for the members of the Association are also organized by the Board.

One of our members recently stated, "...it's not the destination...it's the journey..." and as we approach a new millennium, the journey of the Advertising Association of Winnipeg continues.

"The Advisor" Newsletter
Every month, AAW members receive The Advisor, our exclusive membership newsletter. It's filled with news and upcoming events to keep you in touch with what's going on in Winnipeg's advertising industry. The Advisor is produced by the AAW Communications Committee, in conjunction with Red River College Creative Communications students, and it's available only to AAW members!
Education
The AAW has a long-standing commitment to education, not only through monthly membership meetings, but also through seminars, training programs and other special events. Our annual Media Buying Course, held in conjunction with Red River College, is in high demand year after year.
Events
Everyone in advertising appreciates the lighter side of our business, and the AAW schedules fun and frivolity into every calendar year. Events like our Annual AAW Golf Tournament put business aside and focus on fun with your peers.
